Where has the spirit run to? Where is the spirit that used to cover and scare opponents for Hearst of Oak?

The Phobians used to be the team that believed in spiritism and showed it against every opponent. They simply put fear in their opponents three days before they will face you, but now all have changed, and the club looks like an academy side that has not been coached for an entire year.

Yes, this is the level Accra Hearts of has reached. Lower teams are no more afraid of them, and they have been struggling in the last three seasons, as they nearly got relegated last season.

Things have been better in the current campaign than last season, yet they are trailing league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by 11 points and are sitting 6th on the league table.

On Sunday, Phobia will renew her perennial rivalry with Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium at 3 pm. The Phobians have bragging rights at stake as they have a 2% chance of lifting the GPL title. Their opponents, Asante Kotoko, are six points adrift of the top, and any result apart from victory in Accra will almost kill their slim hopes for the title.

In the build-up to the game, Medeama SC coach Yaw Preko shared his experience in playing against Hearts of Oak in recent years. He described the Accra-based club that they look so spiritless and lacking confidence and belief to finish games.

“They look spiritless, and even when you are losing against them, you know you can rally back and beat them. Something is missing, but I can not pinpoint what is missing. It was a difficult game, but it was also easy to play against Hearts of Oak,” Yaw Prekoh said on Sporty FM.

A lot is indeed missing in the 2000 treble winners’ lives currently. The club has been failing to put up a challenge in any competition. Their season always ends earlier because they don’t have the strength to compete throughout the 8 months.
