Wenchi in the Bono Region on the first Saturday of the year 2025 rolled back the years by honouring twenty girls between the ages of 13 and 16 for being able to preserve their virginities.

Girls who were able to keep their virginities, and keep themselves away from pre-mature sex and teenage pregnancies were honoured in the olden days by the community as it was a way of ensuring girls’ growth and development through Bragoro and Dipo Rites in some of the Ghanaian communities.

“God created you uniquely beautiful and you must not allow anybody to lure and break your virginity until you marry”, the Wenchi District Coordinator Mrs Nana Amponsah Poku said.

“The ancient Bragoro or Dipo Rite was very essential in preserving girls’ virginity and controlling teenage pregnancies inimical to the growth and development of young girls and women,” Nana Poku added.

An undisclosed amount of dough was given to 20 girls during the first Sabbath of the year in the Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA). The money was for their upkeep and to motivate the young ones to preserve their virginities until they tie the knot.

Mrs Nana Amponsah Poku advised them to avoid friendships that can lead them to the abyss.

Also, the Associate Pastor of Wenchi West District of the SDA Church, Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, praised the young teenage girls for their wonderful feet and urged them and others to keep preserving their virginities until marriage.
