Dam Spillages: Asenso-Boakye warns MCEs, contractors over shoddy works

Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye has attacked the poor works of some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and technocrats responsible for the issuance of building permits to developers.

In response to concerns that the lazy attitude of some politicians and civil servants constituted the recent Akomsombo dam spillages and flooding in some parts of the country, the Minister quizzed some heads of institutions.

‘Who is working on these permits? then, no wonder we continue to experience these perennial flooding and collapse of buildings”,  the Minister in a speech delivered at the induction ceremony of 55 architects in Accra stated.

Hon. Francis Assenso-Boakye who is the Member of the Parliament (MP) for Bantema charged the members of the Ghana Institute of Architects to do professional work which will meet the people’s needs.

“We want our cities to be more than just concrete jungles; we want them to be thriving, aesthetically pleasing, and safe environments for all residents.

“While MMDAs are at the forefront of development controls, we recognize that the complexity of important role demands specialized expertise.  Architects along with other professionals can bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table”,  Hon. Asenso-Boakye, Minister, of Works and Housing pointed out.
