Jubilee House: Akufo-Addo, Angela Merkel discuss Ghana’s economy and security
On Tuesday, 31st October 2023, the German Chancellor, His Excellency Olaf Scholz, was at Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s presidency, as part of a 2-day visit to Ghana.
This is the second to Ghana by a German Chancellor in my time as President of the Republic. The first, by Chancellor Frau Angela Merkel, erstwhile longtime leader of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union, and this by Chancellor Herr Olaf Scholz, leader of Germany’s Social Democratic Party, tells us that Ghana’s relations with Germany are based on the most solid of foundations, which do not take into account the political colours of the temporary occupants of Jubilee House in Accra or the Chancellery in Berlin. They are truly state-to-state relations.
The purpose of the visit by the German Chancellor is to re-affirm the ties of co-operation and the bonds of friendship that our two countries attach to our relations with each other. The Chancellor and I discussed at length how to boost further our economic, political and security relations, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, as well as our co-operation at the continental and multilateral levels.
Our deliberations also centered on driving investment opportunities, domestic and foreign, into our two countries, and the need for enhanced co-operation and partnership in our development efforts. Towards the realisation of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we touched on the need to promote a better world, and addressed global issues relating to the accomplishment of the Seventeen (17) Goals.
