Otumfuo is bias and oppressive ruler – Ashyirem Royal Gate
The overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has come under attack from the Ashyirem Royal Gate in the Offinso traditional area over the nomination of Dr. K. K. Sarpong, to succeed the late paramount chief of the area, Nana Wiafe Akenten III.
This, they explained the King is trying to stop Dr. K. K. Sarpong from becoming Offinsohene’ at all cost’, as his pronouncements at some Asanteman Council sittings on the Offinso Stool Affairs are evidence to show.
“It is important to note that Otumfuo’s pronouncements at some Asanteman Council sittings on the Offinso Stool Affairs are regrettable.
“There have been unsubstantiated allegations, among others, all in a bid to justify a course of action he wants to take. Recounting these here can be very embarrassing, to say the least.”, members of the Royal Gate at a presser observed.
“… One can justifiably conclude that Otumfuo is trying, at ALL COST, to find a reason to block Dr. K. K. Sarpong’s nomination. But we think the Overlord of Asanteman should eschew bias and exhibit fairness towards the Ashyirem Royal family and Offinsoman.
The truth is that since we revere Otumfuo, it would have been disrespectful to have challenged his pronouncements while he was sitting in State. However, it is only fair that very obvious errors which undermine the rights of the Ashyirem royals, including Dr. K. K. Sarpong, ought to be corrected,” parts of the statement read.
Background
The demise of Nana Wiafe Akenten III, late Paramount Chief of Offinso has left a vacuum which has led to litigation over who becomes his successor.
A former GNPC CEO, Dr K. K. Sarpong, was selected by the Queen Mother of Offinso with the support of some elders but has been rejected by Otumfuo.
According to Otumfuo, it is rather wrong for the queen’s mother to present K. K. Sarpong as a candidate under the royal bloodline while history and tradition tell otherwise.
Otumfuo has thus warned Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko and the elders of Offinso to put forth their candidate through the appropriate channel or risk having him rejected permanently.
