Ampem Darkoa Ladies whip AS FAR in CAF Women’s Champions League opener
Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies, the WAFU B Champions, began their CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with an impressive victory over defending champions AS FAR Club on Monday evening.
In a back-and-forth encounter, AS FAR Club managed to take the lead in the 15th minute when Najat Badri found the back of the net.
Tracey Twum came close for Ampem Darkoa a few minutes later, but her efforts went wide in the 45th minute.
In the second half, Ampem Darkoa’s coach, Joe Nana Adarkwa, made a substitution, bringing in Mary Amponsah for Maybel Amoyaw.
Comfort Yeboah, the defensive stalwart, equalized for Ampem Darkoa in the 56th minute after capitalizing on a rebound following Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah’s corner kick.
A few minutes later, Yeboah scored her second goal in the 62nd minute to put the Ghanaian champions in front.
After eight minutes of additional time, Ampem Darkoa emerged as the winners, taking them to the top of Group B with 3 points.
Comfort Yeboah was named the player of the match for her outstanding performance.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies will now face AS Mande in their second group game on Thursday at 8:00 pm at the Stade Laurent Pokou.
