The Minister for Local Development, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Daniel Kwaku Botwe has implored staff of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to work effectively to ensure the absolute attainment of the decentralization mandate of their office.
Addressing a staff durbar at the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly on Thursday, November 9, 2023, the Minister said MMDAs would have engaged in dereliction of their duty if the citizens were to feel distant from the government.
Stressing that the assemblies are representatives and the first line of contact between the citizens and the central government at the local level.
“When you work within the local government space, the reason you are so different is that you are directly in line with the whole governance and government architecture.
“As I quoted Article 12. 6, I am sure they all come to you. When they are running education programs, health immunization, police, or prisons when they need support, they come to you.
“You are the government at the local level, you are responsible for all these things. Let people feel your presence, let the people know that when they get close to you, they are very close to the government,” he stated.
