KATH CEO justifies high cost of dialysis treatments; attibutes it to faulty machines

It has emerged that the only two dialysis machines, at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the second-largest referral healthcare facility in the country, are broken.

This has compelled management to refer kidney patients to private facilities at a high cost.

This was made known by the Chief Executive of the Hospital, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah.

The past weeks have witnessed a public outcry over the increase in the cost of dialysis, the regular medical treatment for individuals with kidney failure, in Ghana.

Some public hospitals, including the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, lack enough dialysis machines to help treat kidney patients.

The Chief Executive of the Hospital, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah said this while receiving a donation of 200,000 cedis from the NPP National Secretary and Organizer as part of the Heal Komfo Anokye initiative.
