‘President’ Mahama hints reviewing tax on Sports betting
Flagbearer for the NDC, John Mahama, says the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) review taxes on sports betting, Kapital Online Team report.
“It is not just about taxes on betting, when we come to government we will look at the number of taxes imposed,” Mr. Mahama hinted.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on August 15, 2023, began implementing a 10% withholding tax on all gross gaming winnings.
The GRA explained that the withholding tax would be charged on profits accrued after each win and that the existing 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) rate on each stake would no longer be charged.
Asked whether the tax would be scrapped during an engagement with the youth at Techiman Timber Market and the Techiman Magazine, Mr. Mahama who was unable to indicate his stance said the tax would be reviewed.
