The 2023 winner of the African Footballer of the Year Award, Victor Osimhen, has expressed his delight in the prospect of fellow Nigerian, Ademola Lookman been crowned the 2024 African Footballer of the Year.
The Atalanta forward has enjoyed a successful year after playing a very key role in the Super Eagles’ trip to the finals of the 2023 AFCON where they lost 2-1 to the host, Ivory Coast.
At club level, he was superb for the Italian side, Atalanta, in winning the UEFA Europa League finals 3-0 against German champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Aviva Arena in Dublin where he scored an unbelievable hattrick.
The Napoli striker who is on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey, Victor Osimhen said, “I’m happy I will be handing over the Awarrd of the CAF Best player to my brother, a Nigerian, Ademola lookman. For sure it will remain in Nigeria for now even in the future.”
It took Nigeria many years to win the African Footballer of the Year Award and the current holder is optimistic it will remain in Nigeria for a while.
The 2024 CAF Awards Night will be hosted in Marrakech in Morocco in second week of December.
Ademola Lookman is the overwhelming favourite to lift the award.
