The women’s 200m final on Day 6 had a competitive group of athletes, including the USA’s Jefferson Wooden, who had recently won a gold medal in the 100m and was seeking to achieve a rare double victory.

The race started with a tense moment when Anthonique Strachan from the Bahamas was disqualified for making a false start.

When the event restarted, the audience became quiet, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, who had performed well in the 100m, faced difficulty competing with Jefferson-Wooden’s strong finish.

The American athlete finished first, completing the race in a world-leading time of 21.68 seconds to win the gold medal.

She was the first woman in 12 years to win both the 100m and 200m events at the same World Championships, and she is the first American woman to accomplish this.

This victory also represented the United States’ 11th gold medal at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

Amy Hunt from Great Britain won the Silver medal with a time of 22.14 seconds, and Jamaica’s Jackson received the Bronze medal with a time of 22.18 seconds. Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith from Côte d’Ivoire was the only African athlete in the final, finishing in 7th place with a time of 22.62 seconds.
