Ghana head coach Otto Addo has formally asked for additional support staff to bolster the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as expectations rise ahead of the country’s fifth appearance at the global showpiece.

The request was confirmed by Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, who said the coach believes a reinforced technical and support structure is essential if Ghana are to compete effectively at the expanded tournament.

“I am aware that Otto Addo has requested to beef up the Black Stars technical team,” Asante Twum told Accra-based Sporty FM. “This is the biggest football tournament, and he believes we must go there with the best.”

Ghana have already made notable additions to the backroom staff, with experienced figures such as Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei and Gregory De Grauwe brought in to strengthen the technical setup. Addo’s latest request signals a desire to leave nothing to chance as the Black Stars prepare for a demanding campaign.

The four-time African champions have been drawn in Group I, where they will face Panama, England and Croatia. Ghana will open their World Cup journey against Panama on 17 June in Toronto, before testing themselves against England in Boston. Their group-stage campaign concludes on 27 June with a clash against Croatia in Philadelphia.

After painful early exits at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, there is a renewed determination within the camp to make a deeper run in 2026.

As part of their build-up, the Black Stars are also scheduled to take on Germany in an international friendly on 30 March in Stuttgart, a fixture expected to offer a valuable measure of Ghana’s readiness as preparations intensify.
