The North Africans became the second team from Africa after Ghana to win the coveted FIFA U20 World Cup.

Morocco defeated Argentina 2-0 in the Cup final, claiming their first-ever title.

Six-time champions Argentina, who are well known for their dominance at this level, were the second-best team on the night at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago, Chile.

The Atlas Cubs, led by coach Mohamed Ouahbi, entered the match as underdogs but showed remarkable composure and tactical discipline.

Argentina, which had won all six of its previous matches and scored 15 goals in the tournament, were expected to dominate. However, Morocco’s early intensity and sharp counterattacks quickly shifted the momentum.

The hero of the night was Yassir Zabiri, a forward who plays for Portuguese side Famalicão.

He opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a brilliant free-kick after being fouled just outside the box.

Zabiri doubled Morocco’s lead in the 29th minute, finishing off a swift counterattack that left Argentina’s defence exposed.

Despite Argentina’s attempts to respond, Morocco’s defence held firm, with captain Houssam Essadak marshalling the backline and goalkeeper Ayoub El Harrak making crucial saves.

Argentina dominated possession in the second half but struggled to break down Morocco’s compact setup.

Coach Diego Placente’s side pushed forward relentlessly, but the Atlas Cubs remained disciplined and focused. Morocco’s midfield trio controlled the tempo, frustrating Argentina’s creative players and limiting their chances.

The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations among the Moroccan players and fans, marking a historic moment for African football.

This triumph marks Morocco’s first FIFA World Cup title at any level and ends Argentina’s 42-year unbeaten streak in U-20 finals.

It also makes Morocco the first Arab nation to win the U-20 crown, following Ghana’s success in 2009. The victory is a testament to Morocco’s long-term investment in youth development and football infrastructure.

As the Atlas Cubs lifted the trophy, they not only made history but also inspired a new generation of African footballers with their fearless and united performance.
