In a dramatic pre-dawn operation on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service swooped down on Adom City Estate at Tema Community 25, arresting 39 individuals suspected of running a cyber fraud syndicate.

The raid, which officials described as “intelligence-led,” followed weeks of surveillance on what was believed to be a growing hub for online fraud activities within the gated residential enclave.

Security sources disclosed that the suspects had been under close monitoring after residents raised concerns about unusual movements and nocturnal activities linked to alleged internet scams.

Among those arrested were three minors and a woman suspected of working as an escort for one of the ringleaders. Investigators believe she may have played a role in recruiting or facilitating the lifestyle of the alleged cybercriminals.

The heavily armed joint taskforce confiscated laptops, mobile phones, internet routers, and other digital devices for forensic analysis.

These devices are expected to provide critical leads into the scope of the operations, which authorities suspect involve international networks targeting individuals and financial institutions.

CSA officials noted that the clampdown is part of a broader national strategy to curb cyber-enabled crimes, which have been on the rise in Ghana.

In recent years, the country has recorded an upsurge in incidents of online fraud, romance scams, and business email compromise schemes that have cost individuals and corporate bodies millions of cedis.

“This is a major step in dismantling syndicates that exploit technology to defraud unsuspecting victims,” a CSA spokesperson said. “We want the public to know that the state is taking this menace seriously.”

All 39 suspects are currently in custody and being transferred to the CID Headquarters in Accra for profiling, interrogation, and possible prosecution.

The CID has assured that minors involved in the case will be treated under juvenile protection protocols while investigations continue.
