At the Accra International Conference Center, the 49th edition of the SWAG Awards was organized with excellence in Ghanaian sports in the last 12 months and was honoured.
It was a beautiful occasion attended by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s vice, Naana Opoku Agyeman Jane, Sports Minister Kofi Adams and the president of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah and some other top-notch sports personalities and journalists across the country.
The night’s biggest prize went to Ghanaian sprinter Edwin Gadayi who competed in 100 Meters, 200 Meters and 4×100 Meters Relay. The 23-year-old who won the Silver medal in the 2023 All-African Games hosted in Accra in the 4×100 m relays was honoured after a wonderful year.
Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, 23, was named the Sports Personality of the Year. The high jumper who competed in the 13th All-African Games and the Paris Olympic Games was a deserving winner after she won gold in the Accra 2023 and Douala 2024 and NCAA I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In Football, Dreams FC youngster on a season-long loan at Barca B in Spain was named the Male Footballer of the YEAR after an incredible 2024.
The 19-year-old was arguably the best player in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup where he led Dreams FC to the semi-finals. He won the top scorer award in the CCL scoring 4 goals. He shared it with fellow Ghanaian John Antwi of Dreams Fc, Senegalese star Paul Bassene of RS Berkane and USM’s Malian international Abdoulaye Kanou. Aziz Issah also helped Ghan U20 lift a Gold medal in Accra’s 13th All African Gmnaes.
Mukarama Abdulai who scored a 98th-minute winner for Ghana against Nigeria in the 13th All Africans Games was named Female Footballer of the Year. The 22-year-old Gold medalist has played for Northern Ladies and Spanish side Alaves.
Samartex won Club of the Year as expected after a wonderful campaign in the Ghana Premier League culminating in winning the 2023-24 title.
Desmond Offei who in 2024 won the 13th All-African Games for the Black Satellite and also took the team to the finals of the WAFU Zone B U20 finals won Coach of the Year.
GPL referee Nii Otto Larkyne was named Referee of the Year.
Veteran Sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu of Pure FM won Sports Journalist of the Year. Sudanese head coach Kwesi Appiah won the Prestigious SWAG President Award.
