We never collected any betting tax – ex-Finance Minister Mohammed Amin

The opposition NPP in their press conference after Cassiel Ato Forson’s declaration of the scrapping of the 10% tax on betting and lotteries, the former finance minister, Mohammed Amin Adam made a very shocking revelation that the NPP government did not collect any betting tax.

His comments have surprised nearly every Ghanaian because punters complained bitterly about how the government has been suffocating their lives with the betting tax.

“Betting tax that they said they have abolished, we never collected Betting Tax. So to come and tell Ghanaians that you have abolished something that you have not implemented, is to deceive the people of Ghana,” Mohammed Amin said.

Per the opposition NPP, there was nothing like a betting tax during the second term of their reign. The betting tax which was introduced in 2013 under the Akufo-Addo-led government, imposed an unbelievable 10% withholding tax on winnings from sports betting and lottery.

Punters across Ghana have been celebrating the news of the abolishment of the 10% betting and lottery-winning tax.
