The head coach of Ghana Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, is preparing his team for the 2024 WAFCON to be played in Morocco between 5th and 26th July.

12 teams are set to compete for the ultimate, with 5th-ranked Ghana ready to fight for their first-ever title. Highly ranked Nigeria will be the favourites, per the connoisseurs of the Women’s game in Africa. South Africa, the host, Morocco, which is the most improved team, and Zambia will be the teams that the bookmakers will tip to win.

“For me, it is simple to win the gold medal. You need to take it step by step, and I know we are not going to be a favourite for people outside of Ghana. 5 nations have a greater chance of winning it. We need to qualify from the group stage. From there, it’s 3 games, and I know we can do it,’ Bjorkegren said.

Ghana has finished as runner-up in the history of the competition on three occasions but has failed to play in the grand final since 2006.

Head coach Bjorkegren wants Ghana to qualify from the group stage before they can think of the dream. Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside one of the favourites, South Africa, Mali and Tanzania.

The Black Queens are expected to win one of the slots in the group, even though it will be tough competition.
