The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has a lot to do to revive probably once the most beautiful and attractive city in Ghana.

Kumasi earned the nickname Garden City because the place was attractive. The “Garden City of West Africa” was the name the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1940 gave to the city after she saw how beautiful and attractive the place looked with trees planted across every corner, which provided clean air and shade.

This is the place where the rich and the affluent sought refuge; it was everyone’s safe haven in the olden days.

Now, the city looks like the biggest refuse dump in West Africa. The place is dirty, filthy, uncleaned and laden with ghettos. Besides, citizens have been dealing with hikes in fares.

The new Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has pledged to bring the city back to her normal self with plans underway.

Mayor Ofori-Agyeman Boadi aims to tackle issues like transportation first. Tro-tro Drivers have been tripling and quadrupling lorry fares when it is exactly 4 pm in Kumasi.

Whoever wants to travel to Effiduase and its nearby towns from Kumasi must pay ₵20 instead of the agreed ₵13.

From Central Market to Ejisu is ₵15 instead of the normal ₵7; this is the battle Zuba and his entourage face.

“Kumasi’s transport challenges are real—but solvable,” the Mayor of Kumasi said.

“I plan to collaborate with GPRTU & form a task force to tackle illegal loading, fare hikes & more,” Zuba said.

GPRTU has pledged to give their all in the fight against illegal fair hikes and illegal loading.

Citizens have been encountering severe problems regarding transportation. They struggle to get home on time after work. They pay double at least the amount they are supposed to pay in tro-tro in the evening.
