Anger is brewing within the ranks of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as leaked messages from the Greater Accra TEIN Caucus reveal deep anger and discontent over a viral video showing NDC National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, allegedly gifting $10,000 to controversial preacher and socialite, Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa.

The video, which surfaced over the weekend, captured Gyamfi handing over bundles of U.S. dollar notes to Agradaa at a funeral event.

The footage sparked widespread criticism, not just from political opponents, but from within the NDC itself—especially among youth and student activists affiliated with the party’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN).

Leaked internal WhatsApp messages from the Greater Accra TEIN platform, reviewed by The Daily Gist, show mounting outrage.

Many members expressed disbelief that a high-ranking party official would publicly flaunt foreign currency in such hard times, especially at a moment when the Mahama administration is campaigning to restore confidence in the cedi.

One user angrily questioned, “Why should he be holding dollars in his car doing what? We are trying to strengthen our currency and you are holding dollars in your car doing what with it?” Another member added, “Agradaa isn’t a needy person. This is someone who defrauded Ghanaians with ‘sika gari’. Why give her $10,000?”

The backlash didn’t stop at criticism. A more extreme comment from the chat read, “If Agradaa comes out to do any video talking nonsense, we mobilize and go to her house and collect the money back.”

Some attempted to strike a tone of reconciliation, urging their colleagues to “protect him” while acknowledging that the move was ill-timed and politically damaging.

“He has learned a lesson—where to give and when to do that. Let’s leave it at that,” one user pleaded.

Others, however, insisted there should be consequences. “Sure, but he should be reprimanded. Wrong is wrong. No double standards.”

The incident has put the NDC leadership in an uncomfortable position, as the party’s grassroots—already grappling with economic hardship—feel increasingly disconnected from the elite figures at the top.

The comparison to past NPP scandals was also raised in the chat, with one member noting, “I remember when a video of Nana Addo was circulated in the media receiving money; it was used harshly against the NPP. Sammy Gyamfi goofed.”

This controversy comes at a time when the NDC is trying to rally support and project a united front ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Internal discontent, especially from youth groups like TEIN, could hurt the party’s ability to galvanize its base.

The party is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

However, the silence so far appears to be fueling more speculation and discontent within its own ranks.
