“I feel legitimately qualified to be in the French national team. It’s a dream, I’m looking forward to it,” Zidane said when quizzed about returning to the touchline as a coach.

Zinedine Zidane is probably the biggest football personality alive in French football after leading the French national team to win the FIFA World Cup and European Cup in 1998 and 2000, respectively. He remains the only manager to have won the UEFA Champions League three consecutive times with Real Madrid.

The French super manager has been jobless since leaving Real Madrid after being linked to and rejected by so many offers. He has resisted any temptations from any club. He has his eyes fixed on replacing Didier Deschamps, who announced that step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup 2026 to be played across the USA-CANADA-MEXICO.

The French national team will need a new manager for a new project after the next World Cup, and Zinedine Zidane is the frontrunner because of his high-profile resume.
