The passing of the Dumsor Levy was never going to make the opposition or the incumbent quite as many predicted. The flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 General Elections, Bawumia, was expected to quickly comment on the government’s decision to introduce a new tax on Ghanaians.
Alhaji Bawumia warned Ghanaians to expect more taxes from the NDC after describing them as liars.
The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has hit back at Bawumia for telling Ghanaians to expect more taxes from the NDC. Ofosu Kwakye told him that the NPP introduced more than 30 taxes during their 8-year reign.
“He’s out here bashing one tax like his government didn’t drop over 30 on Ghanaians,” Ofosu Kwakye said on Newsfile.
“If it was just the E-Levy, Ghanaians might have managed. But your government flooded the system with over 30 taxes. That’s the real story”.
“Nobody likes a new tax, but if this one is ring-fenced and the funds are used transparently—as promised—then it’s a step in the right direction,” he concluded.
The Minister for Government Communications defended the decision to introduce the dumsor levy and revealed how necessary it is for Ghana if there is transparency.
