Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known popularly as Chairman Wontumi, according to the Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem Sai, is being actively tracked by foreign investigators over suspicions of crîminal activities tied to his business operations and personal dealings outside Ghana.

In an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday. Justice Srem said, “There are issues with our foreign partners, an investigative agency.”

“We have partnered with other foreign agencies who are interested in things that have been traced—or suspicions of crîme that have been traced—to his business and him personally.”

“It is not that it will be triggered necessarily by our foreign partners, but they are interested in what we are doing, and they assist us, just as we assist them. That is how law enforcement works these days, it’s cooperative, it’s international.”

“That is something I cannot put out at this point,” he responded. “But the point I’m trying to make is that we will not persecute anyone.” He said when asked whether Wontumi has committed fraudulent acts in other countries.

“You need to understand—if I am here and I’m telling you the design and scheme, what I’m also doing is to inform the suspects that we are looking for you in this direction. And then it helps them to evade.”

Dr. Justice Sei refused to mention any country or organisation that is looking for Chairman Wontumi.

EOCO and OSP are still investigating Chairman Wontumi’s numerous fraudulent acts and are ready to prosecute him if found guilty.
