Many think it is a way to avoid a coup d’état in Uganda by allowing the military to feel so good. Others also think the president wants to fight indiscipline in Uganda.
President Yoweri Museveni, 80, has been president of Uganda since 1986 and has in mind continuing until maybe he dies.
The 9th president of Uganda has on Tuesday signed a law allowing Ugandan Military tribunals to try civilians who goes contrary to the laws of the country.
“President @KagutaMuseveni has assented to The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (Amendment) Act, 2025,” parliament said in a post on the X platform.
The army’s spokesperson immediately praised it after the bill was passed, “It would ‘deter the formation of militant political groups that seek to subvert democratic processes”.
Opposition leader Bobi Wine and fans have condemned the law as they see it to violate the Supreme Court ruling. Wine, who is no new to political intimidation from Museveni, is expected to challenge the law. Bobi Wine was charged in a military tribunal over illegal possession of guns, but the charge was later dropped.
