A group of newly posted teachers from the 2022 cohort of Colleges of Education graduates have announced plans to picket at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Monday, June 23, over the delay in receiving their staff identification numbers and unpaid salaries for nearly a year.

The group, made up of 784 teachers, says they have not been paid since their official appointment on August 1, 2024, despite several attempts to engage with GES officials for a resolution.

In an interview with Citi News, Solomon Opoku Gyan, a representative of the group, described the situation as deeply troubling. He revealed that members are facing severe financial challenges due to the lack of income and consistent postponements from the Service.

“We’ve worked for 10 months without salaries. We don’t even have staff IDs. Each time we go to GES, they give excuses. It’s becoming unbearable—we are really suffering,” he lamented.

Gyan further disclosed that the long-standing delay has had serious consequences, claiming that some affected teachers have tragically lost their lives due to the stress and hardship.

The group is demanding urgent intervention from GES to address the outstanding salary payments and to formalize their employment by issuing staff IDs and integrating them fully into the service.

The planned picketing aims to draw national attention to their plight and push for lasting solutions.
