A dramatic internal rift within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has escalated into public service disruption in the Hohoe Municipality, following a bold protest action by a local party executive over what he describes as political betrayal.

Wodey Samuel, the NDC’s Constituency Organizer for Hohoe, locked up the Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Thursday, July 10, to express his anger and frustration over not being appointed as the Municipal NADMO Director—a role he claims was promised to him.

According to Wodey, his protest is rooted in what he calls “unfair treatment” and breach of internal agreement within the party regarding appointments at the municipal level.

He insists that he was the preferred candidate for the position, only for it to be handed over to Raphael Kumaga, who also serves as the NDC’s Deputy Constituency Organizer.

“It was clear to everyone that I was the rightful person for the NADMO Municipal Director post. I have served the party diligently. This appointment feels like a slap in the face,” Wodey told reporters while holding the keys to the locked facility.

The NADMO office, responsible for managing emergencies and disaster-related responses in the area, has since been rendered non-operational, affecting both administrative duties and service delivery in the municipality.

Staff members were reportedly turned away when they arrived at work on Thursday morning.

Party Leadership Reacts

The incident has triggered sharp responses from within the party’s leadership in Hohoe.

Newton Darkey, the NDC’s Constituency Chairman, has condemned the act, calling it disruptive and unwarranted.

He revealed that contrary to Wodey’s claims, he was initially offered the position but declined, choosing instead to pursue a different appointment.

Darkey explained that after being unsuccessful in securing that alternative role, Wodey attempted to reclaim the NADMO position, which by then had already been filled.

“Mr. Wodey was given an opportunity. He chose another path and unfortunately didn’t succeed. You can’t come back to occupy a position you previously rejected, especially when it’s no longer vacant,” Darkey stated.
