The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has requested that President John Mahama dismiss two senior officials of the NDC. He states that their public remarks are risky and might lead to violence in Ghana.
The individuals involved are Hanna Bissiw, who manages the Minerals Development Fund, and Malik Basintale, the director of the National Employment Agency. Afenyo-Markin stated that they made comments encouraging violence and should be dismissed from their positions.
He holds them responsible for contributing to the rise in political tension during the recent parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North.
During that election, certain members of the NPP and journalists were assaulted, and videos of the incidents have circulated widely online.
Afenyo-Markin cautioned that if President Mahama does not take action within 48 hours, it will indicate his endorsement of violence. He stated that the NPP will not remain passive while actions threaten Ghana’s peace.
However, the NDC has supported the two individuals, stating that they were merely sharing their opinions openly.
