The Ugandan top court has announced that polygamy is legal in the country. The practice was very common in Africa in the olden days, with education having played a very key role in ending it. However, Uganda is set to revisit the past about men marrying as many wives as they want and can afford.

“The decision came after the Women’s Pro Bono Initiative (WPI) challenged the practice of men marrying more than one woman. The advocacy group argued that polygamy is degrading, harmful, and discriminatory toward women. However, the court found no sufficient evidence to support its case. The ruling has sparked lively debate on social media, with some Ugandan women now calling for the right to polyandry — where women take multiple husbands,” DW announced.

Polyandry is when a woman can marry more than one husband who will suit them. This is what some Ugandan women are calling for after the court passed its judgment.

Across social media, many men are rejoicing over the news, hoping that it will soon reach other African countries.
