Immigration officer dies in road accident while assisting stranded driver

A tragic incident occurred on the night of Saturday, July 19, 2025, near the Accra Arts Centre, resulting in the death of a Ghana Immigration Service officer.

AICO II Japhet Boateng Kyei was struck by a speeding Hyundai Veloster car with registration number DV 9050Y-25 while attempting to cross the road back to his vehicle after assisting the stranded driver.

The Incident 

According to reports, Kyei had parked his vehicle and crossed the road to help a driver whose car had broken down.

After successfully offering assistance, he was hit by the speeding vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was identified by a police officer on duty through the official Ghana Immigration Service pullover he was wearing at the time.

Investigation

Kyei’s body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
