Tensions are mounting within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Assin North following a dramatic power struggle that has resulted in the forceful removal of the District Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Director, Christian Ankomahene Amoah, by his own party supporters.

The incident unfolded on Monday, July 21, 2025, when a group of aggrieved NDC members—led by the constituency Organiser—stormed the YEA office at Assin Breku.

Accusing Amoah of being an illegitimate occupant of the role, the group broke into the premises, replaced the office locks, and installed Samuel Bright Ativi as the new YEA Director.

This latest development has exposed deep cracks within the NDC’s internal structures in the district, with accusations of favouritism and disregard for hierarchy dominating the conversation.

Background to the Crisis

Christian Ankomahene Amoah, who serves as Deputy Organiser of the NDC in the Assin North Constituency, had held the YEA position for over two months.

His appointment was reportedly made under unclear circumstances, which bypassed the sitting Constituency Youth Organiser—Samuel Bright Ativi.

Supporters of Ativi insist the YEA position was supposed to be his, in line with internal arrangements of the party’s regional and constituency structures that prioritize main organisers for such political postings when their party is in government.

According to Ativi, who now claims to be the officially appointed Director, the issue has been brewing for weeks, but came to a head when he finally received his formal letter of appointment.

“In our party, such a position should go to the main Youth Organiser. I don’t know what happened, but it was given to my deputy instead. I have now received my official letter, and today I have resumed duty as the YEA Director,” Ativi told Citi News.

Implications and Reactions

So far, there has been no official comment from the Youth Employment Agency’s regional or national offices regarding the legitimacy of either appointee, nor has the NDC leadership issued a public statement on the matter.
