The Supreme Court of Ghana has cancelled the bench warrant that was issued for the arrest of Kevin Taylor, a Ghanaian broadcaster living in the United States.

The decision was reached on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, after Taylor appeared in court. The five-member panel, led by Justice Tanko, decided with a majority of 4-1 to invalidate the warrant.

Justices Senyo Dzamefe, Suurbaareh, and Philip Bright Mensah agreed with Justice Tanko’s decision, whereas Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu disagreed and presented a dissenting opinion.

The court did not provide full details regarding the reversal right away, but Taylor’s appearance in front of the court seemed to be an important factor in the decision.

The case has attracted public interest, especially because of Taylor’s contentious remarks and his living outside of Ghana. A bench warrant was initially issued to require his appearance in a legal case related to contempt.

The revocation changes the legal situation, and proceedings against the broadcaster will proceed under new conditions.
