Micheal Ward, a 27-year-old British actor known for his roles in Netflix’s “Top Boy,” BBC’s “Small Axe,” and the film “Blue Story,” has been charged with rape and sexual assault.

The allegations involve one woman and reportedly occurred in January 2023.

Charges

Ward faces two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the charges after reviewing the evidence.

According to the Metropolitan Police, Ward will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in London on August 28, 2025.

Ward’s Response

In a statement, Ward denied the charges entirely, saying, “I deny the charges against me entirely. I have co-operated fully with the police throughout their investigation and will continue to co-operate. I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared.”

He has also cooperated with the police and expressed confidence in clearing his name.

Investigation And Support

Detective Superintendent Scott Ware of the Metropolitan Police emphasized the police’s commitment to supporting the woman who made the allegations.

“Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward – we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports,” he said.

Career Highlights

Ward’s career highlights include winning the Rising Star award at the Baftas in 2020 and being nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Small Axe” the following year.

He has also starred in films like “Empire of Light” and the upcoming “Eddington”.

Reminder of Fair Trial

The CPS and police have reminded the public that Ward is entitled to a fair trial and warned against online comments or reporting that could prejudice the proceedings.

“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” Catherine Baccas, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London South, said.
