Ghanaian rapper and music icon Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has joined a chorus of tributes pouring in for the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba.

In a heartfelt message posted on his social media platforms, Sarkodie expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the celebrated musician, who died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025.

“Only if I had the words to express how I’ve been feeling since early this morning, but I don’t…” Sarkodie wrote.

“We will all go back to the maker one day, but sometimes it’s hard to even entertain the thought when it involves people close to your heart… RIP DL!!! Thanks for all you’ve done for us. The legacy lives on. Condolences to the family—I pray for strength.”

Sarkodie’s tribute underlines the emotional impact of Daddy Lumba’s death on the Ghanaian music fraternity and beyond.

Known for his deep respect for the veterans who paved the way in the industry, Sarkodie has often cited Daddy Lumba as one of his inspirations.

Their professional paths notably crossed in 2014 when they collaborated on the hit single “Me Gye Wo Girl,” which quickly became a fan favorite and further solidified the bond between the two musical heavyweights.

Daddy Lumba, whose career spanned more than three decades, is credited with transforming and popularizing the highlife genre in Ghana and among Ghanaian communities in the diaspora.
