Bryan Mbeumo’s £71 million move to Manchester United from Brentford took five good weeks before both clubs were able to agree on a deal.

The Cameroonian forward, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in the 2024-25 season, finally got his dream move to Old Trafford after signing a six-year deal for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Speaking in an interview, the 25-year-old Mbeumo revealed how optimistic he was when the deal was still hanging in the balance.

“No [I never feared it would not happen], I always trust the people around me, and I was convinced that it was going to happen,” said Mbeumo.

“The transfer windows can be long, they can be short. So you have to be patient and just try to keep thinking positively about things. I was obviously on my holidays, so I just wanted to think about resting mentally and physically and if it was going to happen, it was going to happen.

“Of course I spoke to some other managers because I wanted to hear their projects but the Manchester United one was very good for me’, Mbeumo revealed.

Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Newcastle United were all interested in the forward but he decided to sign for Manchester United because it is his dream club.

“I think I’m someone who likes a challenge. There is a very good project in Manchester and I wanted to be part of it. Manchester is a big club. I think it’s a great opportunity”, Mbeumo added.

Bryana Mbeumo is in the USA with Manchester United for the club’s pre-season, and he admitted how huge the club is.

Mbeumo will compete with forwards like Amad Diallo, Cunha, Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Bruno Fernandes for a place in the team.
