The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and National Security operatives have arrested Fante Comedy, a popular TikTok content creator known for his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alongside the NPP’s North Tongu Constituency Women’s Organizer, AY.

According to credible sources, the arrest follows the circulation of a controversial video in which Fante Comedy allegedly mocked victims of the recent Obuasi helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of some Air Force officers.

The video reportedly contained threats directed at National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, and an alleged warning of assassination against President John Dramani Mahama.

Investigations reveal that Fante Comedy was picked up by National Security operatives and subsequently handed over to the CID for further questioning.

The North Tongu Women’s Organizer, AY, was arrested because she was seen in the Tiktok live video running commentary.

On Tuesday morning, former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, Moses Abor, accompanied by his lawyer, arrived at the CID Headquarters in Accra in a bid to secure the release of the two detainees.

Sources close to the matter claim both individuals are being held without formal charges, sparking allegations of unlawful detention.

The incident has provoked intense public debate over the limits of free speech and the state’s handling of politically sensitive cases.

While some argue that threats of violence—particularly against a sitting president—must be taken seriously, others contend that the arrests highlight an alarming trend of shrinking civic space and the erosion of constitutional freedoms guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution.
