President John Dramani Mahama is embarking on a crucial two-country tour of Japan and Singapore as part of Ghana’s renewed push to attract foreign investment, deepen bilateral cooperation, and expand access to international markets.

The official visits, beginning Sunday, August 17, 2025, will mark the President’s latest diplomatic effort to position Ghana as a hub for trade, technology, and infrastructure partnerships with Asia.

Participation in TICAD IX, Tokyo

President Mahama’s first stop will be Japan, where he will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX).

The TICAD process, established in 1993, has grown into one of the most influential global platforms fostering African development through collaboration with Japan and other international partners.

At the conference, President Mahama will deliver a keynote presentation during a plenary session on “Promoting Trade and Investment.”

He is also expected to showcase Ghana’s economic reform agenda, dubbed “Resetting Ghana,” at a Presidential Investment Forum designed to highlight opportunities for Japanese investors in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy.

Bilateral meetings with top Japanese officials and agencies, including Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and senior executives of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), have also been scheduled.

These discussions are expected to focus on technical assistance, development finance, and infrastructure expansion, areas where Japan has historically supported Ghana through concessional loans and technology transfer.

Three-Day State Visit to Singapore

Following the Tokyo leg, President Mahama will proceed to Singapore for a three-day state visit.

The itinerary includes a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and high-level talks with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

The participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum will be central to this leg of the trip, with Mahama expected to address investors on the new policy direction and efforts to strengthen private-sector linkages.

The President will also headline an investment forum in Singapore, presenting the reform priorities in finance, infrastructure, and human capital development to attract capital inflows from Asia’s leading financial and business hub.

The Singaporean firms have in recent years expressed growing interest in Ghana’s ports, logistics, and digital economy sectors, making the visit timely in consolidating those prospects.
