The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has joined the nation in mourning the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, extending its condolences to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Royal Family, and the entire Asanteman.

In a statement signed by its President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the Association described the late Queen Mother as a “woman of exceptional dignity” who embodied leadership through compassion, wisdom, and devotion to the cherished traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom.

The GJA said the Asantehemaa lived a life that testified to “service to the Golden Stool, the culture of Asanteman and the unity of Ghana.”

Her reign, the association noted, was marked by her emphasis on discipline, education, and the preservation of cultural values—qualities that resonate strongly with the mission of journalists to educate, inform, and uphold truth.

“She was not only a mother to the Asantehene; she was, indeed, a mother to Asanteman and Ghana,” the statement read.

The late Queen Mother, who passed away earlier this month, was known for her openness to all who sought her counsel.

The GJA recalled her ability to listen, advise, and foster dialogue, which made her “a true embodiment of communication.”

Solidarity with Asanteman

The Association assured the Asantehene and the people of Asanteman of the solidarity of the Ghanaian media during this difficult period. It pledged to continue highlighting the lessons of her life and leadership so that “future generations may learn and be inspired.”

“To His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, we convey our heartfelt sympathy. Losing your beloved mother is a pain beyond words. But we trust the memories of her enduring love, coupled with the prayers and support of the nation, will strengthen you during this period of grief,” the statement added.

GJA to Participate in One-Week Observance

As part of its expression of sympathy, the National Executive of the GJA announced that it would join mourners on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace to commiserate with the Asantehene and the Royal Family during the one-week observance of Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s passing.

A Queen Mother Remembered

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who until her death served as the 14th Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, was regarded as a pillar of support to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and a custodian of tradition.

She was often credited with strengthening the role of women in the Asante royal court and ensuring the cultural continuity of Asanteman. She died at the age of 98.

Her death has been described as a monumental loss to the Ashanti Kingdom and Ghana, with tributes pouring in from political, religious, and traditional leaders across the country.

“As Asantehemaa journeys to join the ancestors, may her soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty. And may her memory continue to inspire all of us to serve with humility, lead with integrity, and live with compassion,” the GJA concluded.
