George Boateng appointed head coach of RAEC Mons

Former Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has been appointed head coach of Belgian third-tier club RAEC Mons, signing a three-year contract.

The 49-year-old Dutch international succeeds Emilio Ferrera, bringing extensive coaching experience to the role.

Coaching Background

Gideon Boateng, who holds a UEFA Pro License, has a strong coaching background, including a stint with the Ghana national team.

He served as an assistant coach during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

He has also worked as a head coach for Malaysian side Kelantan and Aston Villa U-23.

Previous Roles

Before joining RAEC Mons, Boateng was unattached after leaving Coventry City in November 2024, following the arrival of Frank Lampard at the English Championship side.

As a former midfielder, Gideon Boateng retired from professional football in 2013 after notable spells in England with Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.
