The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gushegu, Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, has once again reaffirmed his commitment to education by extending financial support to 238 tertiary students from his constituency.
The gesture, which took place on Monday, August 18, 2025, is part of his long-standing educational assistance programme aimed at reducing the financial burden of higher education on families in the area.
Breakdown of Beneficiaries
According to figures shared by the legislator, this year’s disbursement cut across multiple disciplines.
They include: Law – 4 students, Medicine – 2 students, Engineering – 3 students, Nursing – 35 students, Agriculture/Veterinary – 18 students, Teaching – 61 students and Non-professional courses – 115 students.

Tampuli urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and excel in their various fields, stressing that education remains the surest path to unlocking opportunities for young people in Gushegu and beyond.
“I was particularly excited about the number of female students this year. It is my expectation that in the next two or three years, females will overtake males in terms of the number of tertiary students from our constituency,” the MP stated.
Ahead of the disbursement, the MP visited the Gushegu Senior High School where he interacted with the Headmaster, Salifu, and the teaching staff.
He also took time to encourage the current West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates who are sitting for their final exams.

In his engagement with the broader student body, Tampuli announced that he had constructed a new dining hall for the school and renovated the girls’ dormitory, which had been destroyed by a severe rainstorm.
He assured the students and staff of his continuous support to improve teaching and learning conditions in the school.
Political Courtesy
On the sidelines of his educational engagements, the Gushegu MP also made a brief stop at the residence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Asmana Jamoni.
Describing him as a “brother,” Tampuli noted that their cordial relationship transcends political differences, though he reminded him humorously that “the power they have now is a loan for just four years.”
Consistent Support for Education
Alhassan Tampuli Sulemana, who has represented Gushegu in Parliament since 2020, has over the years rolled out several educational initiatives including scholarship schemes, infrastructural support, and mentorship programmes.
His efforts, he says, are aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering the youth through education.
The MP’s latest intervention has been widely welcomed by parents and students, many of whom say it eases the financial constraints of pursuing tertiary education in the face of rising costs.
