Nigeria’s narrow victory over Rwanda was very good for their confidence ahead of the crucial trip to South Africa to face Bafana Bafana in round 8 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria head coach Eric Sékou Chelle confirmed after the Super Eagles’ 1-0 win against Rwanda on Saturday afternoon that the Galatasaray striker Osimhen got injured :

“Osimhen has experienced pain in his ankle. We will check his condition tomorrow”, the head coach added.

Cyriel Dessers replaced Osimhen in the 35th minute when the doctors confirmed that he could no longer continue.

Nigeria have not confirmed whether the star striker will face South Africa or will return to Galatasaray.

The Super Eagles are third in Group C, having won just 10 points from a possible 21. They trail leaders South Africa by six points.

A draw will almost end Nigeria’s dream of qualifying for the World Cup.
