A Presidential Hopeful of the NPP and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, on Sunday welcomed Okwawu United Football Club, accompanied by the Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, and Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, at his Rock City Hotel.

The courtesy visit brought together traditional authority, political leadership, and sports management under one roof, signaling a renewed spirit of unity in Kwahu.

The gathering included the entire management, technical bench, and players of Okwawu United, one of Ghana’s oldest football clubs with a rich history dating back to the 1970s.

During the visit, the club presented Bryan Acheampong with specially autographed replica jerseys, a gesture the MP described as touching and symbolic of the bond between Okwawu United and the Kwahu community.

He pledged to treasure the memorabilia as a reminder of the team’s role in fostering pride and identity in the area.

Bryan Acheampong praised Okwawu United for its discipline and commitment to excellence, noting that the club remains a strong symbol of Kwahu’s heritage in the football history.

Once a formidable force in the Ghana Premier League, Okwawu United—popularly known as “Asase Aban”—has been working toward regaining its lost glory in national football.

The MP emphasized that beyond sports, the team serves as a rallying point for the youth and a platform to showcase Kwahu’s talent and resilience.

He further lauded the collaboration between traditional leadership and youth institutions, stressing that the unity displayed through such engagements would propel Kwahu’s development agenda.

“As Kwahu grows stronger in unity and purpose, it gives me immense joy to see our traditional leadership, our sports institutions, and our youth working hand in hand to build pride for our community and beyond,” Acheampong said.

Okwawu United’s visit forms part of activities marking the club’s 50th anniversary celebration, dubbed #Okwawu50, which has brought renewed attention to its legacy and future ambitions.

The club’s iconic nickname, Asase Aban—meaning “Pillars of the Land”—continues to resonate among fans who view it not only as a football team but also as a custodian of Kwahu identity.
