A heartbreaking and unacceptable story has been shared by a woman about how a family have given a 14-year-old girl’s hand in marriage.

The woman called on every authority to step in to rescue the young girl.

She wrote;

“A heartbreaking case has come to light in Kumasi, Atonsu.

A 14-year-old girl, an orphan full of dreams and potential, was forced into marriage against her will.

She never consented to it, nor did she ever show interest in such a union.

Sadly, her own grandmother and other family members conspired behind her back, collecting money from an older man in exchange for her hand in marriage.

When the child first confided in me, she was terrified but willing to escape.

I made arrangements for her to come under my care, where I often send other young girls to learn skills like hairstyling and fashion design through a professional woman I work with.

At first, she was ready to take this opportunity, but suddenly, and strangely, she changed her mind.

Out of respect for her decision, I let it be—only to find out later that the marriage had gone ahead last week.

As if that were not enough humiliation, she was not even dressed with dignity for the marriage.

This poor child was clothed in her deceased mother’s old clothes, and because they didn’t fit, rags were stuffed into her chest to make them appear suitable.

This degrading act stripped her of every ounce of innocence and dignity, reducing her to nothing more than an object traded for money.

This innocent child, who should be in school or learning a trade, has been sold into a life of abuse and despair.

She has been denied her basic rights, her childhood, and her future.

I am appealing to every child protection agency, social welfare office, and human rights body to step in urgently.

This girl needs to be rescued before it’s too late. No child deserves to be treated as property, and no amount of money should justify the theft of her future“, she concluded.
