Renowned Ghanaian computer scientist and internet pioneer, Prof. Nii Narku Quaynor, is calling for greater emphasis on developing deeper technical skills in software and systems development among the country’s youth.

In an impassioned appeal, Prof. Quaynor urged the nation to move beyond the latest tech trends and invest in substantial, hands-on development capabilities.
“We should encourage our youth to be doing more hard development,” he said in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday September 22, referring to areas like programming, systems engineering, and core computer science.

Prof. Quaynor, a key figure in bringing internet connectivity to Ghana in the 1990s, highlighted his ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent.
“I have a class of over 300 students that I still teach — computer science,” he said.

Despite his decades-long global influence in internet governance and technology, Prof. Quaynor remains passionate about hands-on mentorship as a vital tool for national progress.
“I am one of the best programmers alive today,” he added, urging young people to take bold steps into the demanding but rewarding world of tech development.
