Mikel Arteta has thrown his support behind the club’s plans to renew the contract of Bukayo Saka.
The English forward has two years left on his current deal, where he pockets 195,000 pounds weekly, which is equivalent to 10.14 million pounds per year
The 24-year-old made his debut for the Gunners in 2018 and has since not looked back as he has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s side.
Speaking ahead of the club’s crucial trip to St. James Park to face Newcastle United, Arteta said that he supports the club’s decision.
“I would love that. As a player, he (Saka) is extremely happy and proud to be at the football club. Everyone knows how important Bukayo is for us.”
The English forward is probably the most important player for Arsenal, having improved season after season.
On Newcastle United’s trip, the Spanish manager praised the Magpies’ manager and his coaching team.
“I always praise the work Eddie [Howe] and his staff have done there. They have managed to create such an atmosphere at home and a clear identity”, Arteta said.
“It is going to be another tough test. We know we are going to have to be more efficient to win the game, and we are going to work on that in the next couple of days.”
“Incredibly beautiful. One of the best atmospheres in this country. They play every single ball with you. It’s electric. It’s one team in one city. It’s a great atmosphere to play in”, Arteta waxed lyrical about the atmosphere at the famous St. James Park.
Newcastle United, under Eddie Howe, have become a tough side to beat, especially in their backyard. What makes them extremely solid at home is their fans.
Newcastle will welcome Arsenal on Sunday afternoon to St. James Park.
