Jose Mourinho will return to Chelsea with Benfica in week two of the group phase of the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese manager earned a huge respect for himself after becoming the first manager to win the English top-flight title for the Blues two decades ago.
It was the first time in 50 years that the club had won the league title, after Jose’s vintage side pipped the great Sir Alex Ferguson in his first season, in the 2004-05 season.
He, ahead of the Chelsea trip in London, took the opportunity and praised himself. He referred to himself as the best until someone wins more Premier League titles for the Blues..
“Chelsea won something before my time, and then we started winning, and my team kept winning and then a transformation of new teams, new coaches, more trophies, European trophies, the biggest one – the Champions League”, he hilariously said.
He continued, “So Chelsea is a winning machine. I’m the biggest one until someone wins four”.
The outspoken Jose was a couple of weeks ago sacked from Turkish side Fernabahce and was immediately appointed as the new manager for Benfica after Bruno Lage was sacked.
Mourinho’s titles for Chelsea
The Portuguese tactician won seven major trophies in two spells in charge of Chelsea: three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and three League Cups.
Benfica’s visit to Stamford Bridge could be the biggest homecoming and reunion in European football in the entire 2025-26 season.
