Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Kwabena Awuku, affectionately called Sammi Awuku, has stepped up his efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the constituency with the donation of a wide range of medical equipment and essential supplies to health facilities.

The intervention, done in partnership with the Akuapem North Municipal Health Directorate, was targeted at both rural and peri-urban facilities, many of which have long struggled with logistical and equipment challenges.

Beneficiary centres included health facilities in Mangoase, Adawso, Tinkong, Gboloo Kofi, Osabene, and the Mampong Urban CHPS compound.

Among the items distributed were digital thermometers, stethoscopes, surgical gloves, surgical gowns, delivery packs, suction tubes, urine bags, adhesive plasters, nose masks, Pro Shield sprays, and scan gels.

The MP also donated bed mats of different sizes, sanitary pads, cotton gauze and swabs, stethoscopes, weighing scales, height meters, pulse oximeters, oxygen meters, and ambu bags for resuscitation.

To improve patient comfort and waiting conditions, seater waiting area chairs were also supplied to selected facilities.

In addition, items such as receiver bowls, liquid soaps, suture needles, tablet containers, and medical weighing equipment were handed over to health centres and the Municipal Health Directorate to enhance infection prevention, maternal care, and general clinical services.

The MP, Awuku, said the donation was part of his broader commitment to strengthen healthcare in Akuapem North, stressing that frontline health workers deserve not just recognition but the resources to deliver quality service.

“Our health workers continue to serve with resilience and dedication despite the difficulties they face. This gesture is to reassure them that their sacrifices are valued and to equip them with the basic tools needed to save lives,” he noted.

The MP, who assumed office after the 2024 elections, highlighted healthcare as one of the pillars of his campaign agenda.

Since taking office, he has embarked on a series of interventions aimed at bridging resource gaps in health delivery, especially in underserved rural communities.

Healthcare delivery in Akuapem North has for years faced major hurdles. Many health centres operate with inadequate supplies, outdated equipment, and limited infrastructure, making it difficult to meet the needs of the growing population.

Community leaders and health practitioners have consistently appealed for government support, citing shortages of protective equipment, maternal care resources, and diagnostic tools.

Awuku’s intervention has therefore been welcomed as a timely response to the pressing needs of these facilities.

The Municipal health officials described the donation as a boost to both staff morale and patient care. Community members also expressed optimism that such initiatives, if sustained, would complement government efforts to expand access to reliable healthcare services in the area.

The Akuapem North legislator assured that he will continue working closely with the Municipal Health Directorate and other partners to address gaps in health infrastructure and supplies, noting that improved healthcare remains central to his development agenda for the constituency.
