Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has signed a two-year contract to lead Bibiani Gold Stars, following the club’s recent exit from the CAF Champions League.

His appointment comes after the dismissal of Frimpong Manso, who was relieved of his duties following a 2-0 defeat to JS Kabylie at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of the preliminary round.

Bibiani Gold Stars had been without a substantive head coach since Manso’s departure, with assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah temporarily taking charge of the team.

Unfortunately, under Amankwah’s leadership, the club suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat in Algeria, crashing out of the competition with a 7-0 aggregate loss and recorded a 1-0 win in the Ghana Premier League at Sweduru All Blacks on Saturday in week 4.

The embarrassing defeat against the Algerians forced the club’s management to act swiftly in securing the signature of Maxwell Konadu, a seasoned tactician, to lead the team for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

What will Konadu bring on board?

After parting ways with South African Black Leopards in February 2025, the tactician has been jobless and is returning with a wonderful resume.

Konadu’s arrival is expected to bring stability and renewed ambition to a team eager to defend its domestic title and make a stronger impact on the continental stage.

He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed top Ghanaian sides such as Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities, and the Black Meteors.

He also had a stint with South Africa’s Black Leopards and led Ghana’s Black Stars B to victory in the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations.

His reputation for building resilient squads and his deep understanding of Ghanaian football make him a strategic choice for the Miners as they aim to bounce back from their recent setbacks.

Konadu is expected to take charge of his first match on Wednesday, October 8, when Bibiani Gold Stars face Asante Kotoko in a rescheduled Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

This match will serve as a litmus test for his tactical approach and ability to galvanise the squad.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he reshapes the team and instils a winning mentality.

With his appointment, Bibiani Gold Stars signal their intent to remain competitive both locally and internationally.

Konadu’s leadership could be pivotal in transforming the club’s fortunes and sustaining its success in the Ghana Premier League.

As the team regroups and prepares for the season ahead, expectations are high for a revival under his guidance.

Konadu has signed a two-year contract for the Miners.
