The final funeral rites for Ghana’s beloved highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu—widely known as Daddy Lumba—will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Following his passing on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital, a one-week memorial was held on August 30 at Accra’s Independence Square (Black Star Square). The event drew thousands of fans, fellow musicians, and dignitaries, all mourning the loss of the 60-year-old icon. At the time, no burial date had been confirmed—until now.
On Wednesday, October 8, a flier announcing the funeral date and venue was shared via Daddy Lumba’s official Facebook page and his radio station, DL FM. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium was selected to accommodate the anticipated massive turnout of mourners, including fans, family, and prominent figures from across Ghana and beyond.
The ceremony is expected to mirror the overwhelming attendance of his earlier memorial, with thousands gathering to honour a man whose music—ranging from romantic ballads and gospel to inspirational anthems and soulful dirges—shaped the soundscape of Ghanaian highlife.
The decision to host the funeral in Kumasi follows weeks of public debate over whether Accra or Kumasi should be the final resting place. Ultimately, Kumasi was chosen in recognition of Daddy Lumba’s Ashanti roots and the city’s profound role in his musical journey.
As the nation prepares to say goodbye, Daddy Lumba’s funeral promises to be one of the most emotionally resonant and widely attended events in Ghana’s entertainment history—a fitting tribute to a legend whose songs continue to echo across generations.
