A 54-year-old man, Kofi Boakye Frimpong, is currently in police custody after being caught impersonating a police officer despite having been dismissed from the service.
On September 17, 2025, Frimpong was spotted at the Zenu Star Fuel Station dressed in a tactical black long-sleeved police uniform, complete with a Chief Inspector’s rank badge. He presented himself as an officer still in active service.
However, officers on duty at the station grew suspicious and engaged him in a brief conversation. During the interaction, Frimpong reportedly attempted to flee by jumping onto a motorbike and instructing the rider to speed off. His sudden escape attempt intensified the officers’ suspicions, prompting a swift chase that led to his arrest.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Frimpong had previously been dismissed from the Ghana Police Service. He had since relocated to Ashaiman but continued to wear the uniform and falsely present himself as a serving officer.
He was charged with false pretence and appeared before the Ashaiman District Court, where he pleaded guilty and requested leniency. The court has deferred sentencing and remanded him into custody. Frimpong is expected to reappear on October 14, 2025.
