The 2025 AFCON is less than two months away before the big kick-off in Morocco. Teams are preparing for the biggest sporting show on the African continent.

Tanzania head coach Hemed Suleiman has disclosed that his team will keep their identity” as they prepare to face Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda in Group C.

Tanzania is an underdog heading towards the competition, and the head coach believes they have to keep their identity, which has brought them all the way up.

With the AFCON tournament fast approaching, Suleiman has emphasised the importance of staying true to Tanzania’s tactical and cultural footballing roots.

Speaking to CAF media, he acknowledged the strength of their group opponents but insisted that the Taifa Stars would not abandon their style.

“We’ve spent the past year rebuilding habits and sharpening detail,” he said, pointing to the influence of domestic clubs like Simba SC, Young Africans, and Azam FC in raising the national team’s standards.

Suleiman was particularly candid about the challenge posed by Nigeria, describing the Super Eagles as a team “full of attacking talent and lethal creativity.”

He warned that even the smallest lapse in concentration could be punished by such a high-calibre side.

Tunisia, meanwhile, brings a different kind of threat with their tactical discipline and tournament experience, while Uganda offers a familiar regional rivalry that could be unpredictable.

Despite the daunting lineup, Suleiman remains optimistic. He stressed the importance of preparation, balance, and belief, noting that Tanzania’s recent improvements in intensity and resilience would be key to competing at the highest level.

“Each opponent presents a distinct challenge,” he said, “but we’ll keep our identity and play with clarity and composure.”

His comments reflect a growing confidence within the Tanzanian camp, buoyed by consistent performances in regional competitions.

As the Taifa Stars gear up for their AFCON campaign, fans and analysts alike are watching to see how Suleiman’s philosophy translates on the pitch.

The coach’s commitment to identity and structure could be the foundation for a surprise run in Group C.

With the tournament kicking off in late December, Tanzania’s journey will be one of grit, growth, and the pursuit of continental respect.
