Israeli head coach Avram Grant has been sacked by the Zambian Football Association after horrible performances in the just-ended 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
With just less than two months before the AFCON, the 70-year-old who took the East Africans to the 2023 AFCON in the Ivory Coast secured another qualification for the competition to be played in Morocco.
Avram Grant has been leading the Chipolopolo since December 2022, and on Wednesday, agreed mutually with the Football Association of Zambia to step down.
Zambia who won the 2012 AFCON in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers finished fourth in Group E after winning just nine points in a possible 24. The Chipolopolos scored 10 goals and conceded 10, finishing behind minnows Niger and Tanzania.
The veteran tactician has coached teams like Chelsea, Portsmouth and West Ham United in England. In Africa, Avram Grant took Ghana to the 2025 AFCON finals, where he lost on penalties against the Ivory Coast
Zambia will look forward to appointing a new manager to prepare the team for the imminent AFCON in Morocco.
The Chipolopolo in Group A will face Mali, Comoros and the host nation, Morocco.
